Reyes S. Tamez Guerra

Professor Emeritus, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, México

Reyes S. Tamez Guerra is a Full-time and Emeritus Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), and is author of 138 scientific papers and 8 books. He is a Member of the Mexican National Research System Level II and the Mexican National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Tamez Guerra was Vice-President and President of the UANL, Minister of Education of México (2000-2006) and Secretary of Education of the state of Nuevo León. He also served as member of the Lower Chamber National Congress 61st Legislature, and President of the Science and Technology Commission. Dr. Tamez Guerra earned his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology at the UANL, and his master’s and PhD degrees in immunology at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional. He was a visiting scholar at The Gustave Roussy Institute of Cancerology in Villejuif, France. He has received 34 national and international awards for his research papers; notable among them is the National “Jorge Rosenkranz” Medical Research Award. Other awards include the order “Gabriela Mistral” of the Government of Chile in 2004, the Gold medal of the Organization of Ibero-American States in 2006, and Distinguished Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences in 2013. In addition, Dr. Tamez Guerra was a visiting professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2011 and a Harvard University Advanced Leadership Fellow in 2012.
