Description: This program supports
university studies for Salvadoran citizens both in-country and
abroad. The program is jointly administered by the Fundación
para la Educación Integral Salvadoreña (FEDISAL)
of El Salvador, which administers the programs of grantees who
study in El Salvador, and LASPAU, which administers the programs
of grantees who study in countries other than El Salvador. To
date, 179 individuals have been selected to pursue undergraduate
and graduate degree programs in universities around the world
through the LASPAU-administered component of the program.
More Information
FANTEL is a Salvadoran national development
effort financed with funds from the privatization of the country’s
telephone company, ANTEL. One component of the effort is a scholarship
program, FANTEL Scholarships for Higher Education. The scholarship
program includes a number of components, including Excelencia
Académica, Talento Salvadoreño, Señor Presidente,
and Talento Matemático. One grantee was jointly sponsored
by FANTEL and the Organization of American States.
The FANTEL scholarship program is jointly administered by FEDISAL
of El Salvador and LASPAU, and, at the time of inception, was
LASPAU’s first bilateral partnership with a Latin American
organization to administer a Latin American-funded initiative.
The grantees administered by LASPAU have studied at universities
in Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czechoslovakia,
Denmark, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Mexico,
the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom,
and the United States.
