Since 1999, LASPAU has hosted a representative of the Tecnológico de Monterrey (the Tec) here in Cambridge as a way for LASPAU to help facilitate long-term collaborations between the Tec and universities in New England. One of the most exciting results of this effort is a new collaboration between the Tec and Harvard Universitys Kennedy School of Government.
In February 2003, Joseph Nye, dean of the Kennedy School, and Peter Zimmerman, senior associate dean for program development and executive education, traveled to Mexico to sign the project agreement. The initiative will include an executive program at Harvard for Mexican public leaders and government officials, a two-week summer course at Harvard for Tec students, collaborative research on issues of importance for Mexico and the region, and the joint sponsorship of research conferences. In addition, the Kennedy School will help the Tec develop masters programs in public administration and public policy. Merilee Grindle, Edward S. Mason Professor of International Development at the Kennedy School and a member of the LASPAU Board of Trustees, and Mary Hilderbrand, a fellow in development with Executive Programs at the Kennedy School, will oversee the project.
