LASPAU is pleased to announce the appointment of directors in two new positions.
Fay Henderson de Díaz has been named director of program relations and management. With a B.A. in English literature from Cornell University and an M.A. in applied linguistics from the University of Colorado, Fay taught linguistics and English language at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico and then joined LASPAU as coordinator of English language training. She progressed to regional director at LASPAU before returning to Mexico, where she assisted in the design, implementation, and assessment of grant programs for the Ford Foundations Mexico office. During this period, she also designed a network to promote Inter-American Foundation fellowships, served as a consultant on the Central American Scholarship Program for the Education Development Center, and assisted LASPAU with program development and implementation in Mexico. Her most recent position was director of programs for the U.S.Mexico Commission for Education and Cultural Exchange, the binational commission that oversees Fulbright Program activities in Mexico.
Andrew Stavrolakis is now the director of finance and administration. A graduate of Vanderbilt University with a major in economics, Andrew began his career as a senior associate at the Boston accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. In 1993, he joined LASPAU as a financial administrator, and he was named controller in 1997. He has extensive experience with investment policies, audit management, financial analysis, budget management, and systems development and implementation.
The positions were created as a result of program growth and the August 2000 departure of Cynthia Quense, who served as director of both finance and program implementation. During her tenure at LASPAU, Cindy worked with finance and program office staff to merge procedures that affected both areas. The resulting systems increased efficiency throughout the organization, enabling LASPAU staff members to better assist each other and more easily meet the needs of institutions, grantees, and sponsoring agencies.
The new directors will work closely to maintain the compatibility of operations between LASPAUs finance and program offices while undertaking expanded responsibilities in their respective areas.
