How to Apply
Am I eligible?
Candidates should have a proven academic record and demonstrate achievement in their field of study and show potential for future leadership and accomplishments in science and technology.
To be considered for the scholarship, you must:
- be a Brazilian citizen or a foreign citizen with a Brazilian permanent visa.
- present the required score on an English Language Proficiency test taken within the past 2 years. | details►
- present the recommended GRE revised General Test taken within the past 5 years. | details ►
- show proof of having completed a bachelor’s, a specialization and/or a master’s degree before June 30, 2016.
Do you want to start a program before or after August/September 2016? LASPAU only supports academic placement Ph.D. for programs that begin August or September 2016.
Do you already have admission to a U.S. university? LASPAU only works with candidates who do not have a U.S. university admission. Candidates with admissions must apply for the Ciência sem Fronteiras scholarship directly through CNPq.
Do you have a doctoral degree? Candidates who already have a doctoral degree are not eligible for the Doutorado Pleno Scholarship through LASPAU.
Are you a Permanent Resident or Citizen of the United States? Candidates who hold permanent resident status (green card holder) in the United States, or who are citizens of the United States are not eligible for a Ph.D. scholarship.
What if I'm not eligible?
If you are not eligible for the Doutorado Pleno through LASPAU based on the criteria above, you may still be eligible for a Ciência sem Fronteiras scholarship or other opportunity.

- Take the TOEFL or the IELTS English Language Proficiency Test and report your scores to LASPAU
- Submit your Ciência sem Fronteiras Application by Friday, August 21st, 2015 at 11:59 pm EST
- Submit your LASPAU Application by Friday, August 21st, 2015 at 11:59 pm EST
- Take the GRE revised General Test
