Eligibility | Application Process


The scholarship is offered to candidates with a proven academic record who demonstrate achievement in their field of study and show potential for future leadership and accomplishments in science and technology.

To be considered for the scholarship, you must:

  • be a Brazilian citizen or a foreign citizen with a Brazilian permanent visa;
  • receive the required score on an English Language Proficiency test | details►
  • take the GRE revised General Test | details ►
  • receive a Bachelor's degree on or before June 30, 2016
    **proof of completion or declaration of enrollment that includes anticipated graduation date is required.

Candidates who have an admission letter from a U.S. university should not apply for LASPAU’s academic placement services; they must apply for the Ciência sem Fronteiras scholarship directly through CNPq’s application.

LASPAU only works with candidates who do not have U.S. university admission. Please note that LASPAU only supports academic placement for programs that begin August or September 2016.

Candidates who held an undergraduate Ciência sem Fronteiras (Graduação Sanduíche) scholarship are welcome to apply. Read more about eligibility requirements on the Ciência sem Fronteiras website.

If you are currently enrolled in a Master's program, you must complete your degree by June 30, 2016. If you drop out, or take a leave of absence, or trancar, you will be ineligible for scholarship.

Candidates who already have a doctoral degree, who hold permanent resident status (green card holder) in the United States, or who are citizens of the United States are not eligible for a PhD scholarship.
