How to Apply

Eligibility | Application Process

Eligibility:

The scholarship is offered to candidates with a proven academic record who demonstrate achievement in their field of study and show potential for future leadership and accomplishments in science and technology.

To be considered for the scholarship, you must:

  • be a Brazilian citizen or a foreign citizen with a Brazilian permanent visa;
  • receive the required score on an English Language Proficiency test | details►
  • take the GRE revised General Test | details ►
  • receive a Bachelor's degree on or before June 30, 2015
    **proof of completion or intent to complete is required.

You do not need to have an admission letter from a U.S. university in order to apply for LASPAU’s academic placement services. LASPAU only supports academic placement for programs that begin August or September 2015.

Candidates who held an undergraduate Ciência sem Fronteiras (Graduação Sanduíche) scholarship are welcome to apply. Read more about eligibility requirements on the Ciência sem Fronteiras website.

Candidates who already have a doctoral degree or who hold permanent resident status (green card holder) in the United States are not eligible for a PhD scholarship.


Application Process:

1. Take an English Language Proficiency Test

You are required to take one of the following tests and receive the minimum required score. Please note that the TOEFL test is preferred. Not all U.S. universities accept the IELTS.

TOEFL iBT®

The TOEFL internet-based test must be taken March 31, 2013 or later.

Minimum required score: 79

Important: Have the Educational Testing Service (ETS) send your official TOEFL score reports to LASPAU. LASPAU’s institutional code is 3492. If a department code is required, enter "graduate studies".

Recommended Scores

For exams taken before August 2011
quantitative score of 700
verbal score of 550
analytical writing score of 3.0.

For exams taken on or after August 2011
quantitative score of 155
verbal score of 156

3. Submit Your Application

 
Apply for LASPAU’s academic placement services
Deadline: September 1, 2014 at 11:59 pm EST

You are encouraged to apply early to give LASPAU ample time to help you prepare your documents for the academic placement process.

Scanned copies of your TOEFL or IELTS and GRE test scores, valid passport (if available) or Registro Geral card (front and back), , and all your post-secondary academic transcripts, with English translations must be submitted with your application.
